Moved to Ubuntu first, got the enlightenment wm to help ease the transition, and a few months later I tried out tiling WMs until I found i3. At some point 10.6 stopped being supported by fairly crucial stuff (Fuck you, Java 7) and I realized that I didn't like the Apple-ness of OSX all that much. I got Afloat (better window management) and simply loved it, which was also fucked for 10.7+, as the developer stopped working on it after he got a job with. I was also pissed off about the state of package managers and the occasional closed source bullshit that I would run into while hunting down some problem. During that time I amazingly didn't even get a single case of "feature envy" from.
I held off with 10.6 while Apple fucked their OS badly throughouy 10.7-10.9 (fullscreen/multimonitor fiasco-no solutions, getting more and more iOS-y.
